PRESS RELEASE – 20th of November, 2014, Erbil
Paulo Casaca was invited by the Indian based organisation International Association for Human Values (IAHV) to the conference being held in Erbil on protecting Women & Bringing Peace and Stability.
The conference was co-sponsored by the Kurdish regional authorities and highlighted the need for all those who base their principles in humanity to support the struggle against fanaticism in the region.
In the last few month jihadis massacred or reduced to slavery thousands of defenceless civilians in the region, in particular from minorities such as the Yazidis. Thousands of starving civilians are still encircled by Jihadi forces in the Sinjar Mountains.
Among the speakers, the conference heard the words of Nawahib Hadi, governor of Erbil, as well as Jian Tolheldan, spokeswoman of the Kobane Kurdish forces, who made an appeal for military support to the anti-jihadi resistance.
Paulo Casaca had a bilateral meeting with Ms. Mawahib Al-Shibani, director in Iraq of IAHV, where he stressed the need to have a comprehensive struggle against all brands of jihadism and intolerance.
Paulo Casaca called the attention of IAHV to the need to end immediately the medical blockade to camp Liberty in Iraq.
He stressed that the denial of medical treatment to the Iranian refugees in Camp Liberty has caused the death and suffering of numerous refugees and, most particularly, women.
